Abstract
Background and Objectives: The Calgary Cambridge Guide is a well-known diagnosis tool for communication between the therapist and the patient. It has significant evidence of its validity, reliability, and usefulness. The purpose of this study was to localize the Calgary Cambridge Guide according to the cross-cultural adaptation (CCA) standard in order to access a suitable cover with Persian culture and language
Materials and Methods: In this non-experimental methodological study, in order to indigenization of Calgary Cambridge Guide, first we obtained the permission from the original authors then we used of CCA standard that consists of five main steps. Finally, Face validity, content validity, increasing the accuracy and reliability of the final checklist were examined.
Results: After the localization process, the initial validity confirmation of the final checklist prepared in accordance with Persian culture and language was received from the original author and then a group of communication skills experts. In order to increase the accuracy and reliability of the prepared checklist, observing skills was performed based on a checklist with help of 20 residents of the last year of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, The reliability index of k was equal to 1.00, which means it was 100% reliable.
Conclusion: In studies based on the Calgary Cambridge Guide in Iran, this guide has no proper translation and has not been indigenized in accordance with Iranian culture and Persian language and therefore does not provide a suitable cover for patient and physician communication skills assessment. The final checklist in this study, which is the first original localized referral based on the Calgary Cambridge Guide, helps to solve this problem and provides a comprehensive coverage of this guide.
