Background and purpose: One of the most fundamental requirements to achieve a comprehensive development in a country is training powerful and dynamic human resources in education and research. Purpose of this study was to determine the effect of research oriented education in the provision of applied nutrition course. Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in years 1387-1392 in the Department of Public Health in Kermanshah for five semesters. The study group was public health students who had chosen Applied Nutrition course. Practical units was defined and implemented per semester as a research project. Results: To date, six research projects has been approved by Research and Technology Committee of Medical Sciences of Kermanshah University for this project. From this studies, three research papers has been published, five papers have been reviewed and accepted and in press two other papers are under review by journals. Conclusions: The results indicate that by doing research projects as a practical unit course, students' research skills can be improved, and also it would effectively help efficient scientific graduates.
